The Implementation of Group Investigation to Improve the Students’ Speaking Skill by Iswardati

There are many alternatives strategies to improve the student’s ability in speaking. One of the strategies that a teacher could use is group investigation. Slavin (2008) states that group investigation is related to the activities of collecting, analyzing, and synthesizing information in order to solving a multi-task problem. The students can look for any information from the inside or outside the classroom, such as: books, institution, or society.
Group investigation has several advantages. First, it can improve students’ academic achievement. Slavin (2008) reveals that cooperative learning techniques including group investigation is helpful to achieve personal learning goal by achieving group learning goal. If a member of a group wants to achieve his/her goal, she/he must help achieving the group goal. By doing together to get the group goal, the students can apply an appropriate way to get the success in learning. In cooperative learning classroom, the higher students help the lower achievers. Second, it motivates students to learn. Students’ learning motivation plays an important role in determining the success of their academic performances.


Improving the Achievement on Writing Narrative Text through Discussion Starter Story Technique by Rodearta Purba

Some students were not able to formulate ideas from their mind into written language. It is proven that most of the students can not write simple paragraph in writing narrative text and as a result they got low score in writing. It caused that students were bad in grammar, and their vocabularies were limited.
There are many techniques in improving the students’ writing skil, one of them is Discussion Starter Story technique. Discussion starter story tecnique is one of the group learning techniques that involves students directly because it requires direct srudents’ thinking that are closely related with the students’ writing skills in solving theproblems. The discussion starter story technique couldhelp the students to make the advanced story of the text that not clear in the resolution and because of that the students were able to write their personal experience be better.

Improving Students’ Creative Thinking and Achievement through The Implementation of Multiple Intelligence Approach with Mind Mapping

Mind mapping is a technique to record creatively that can optimize the students’ intelligence. Furthermore, according to Depotter, et al., [23] mind mapping method can stimulate the mind to think actively. This occurs since mind mapping method is parallel to the principle of the natural working of the mind.
With these phases and the integration of mind mapping, the students are helped in developing their intelligence. Hence, all of their potentialities will easily construct their understanding of the concepts they learn. The students with understanding of the concepts learned will automatically improve their knowledge and this in its turn will lead to an improvement in the students’ knowledge and will lead to the improvement of te students’ learning achievement.

             Improving the EFL Learners’ Speaking Ability through Interactive Storytelling

     This present research was aimed to improve the EFL learners’ speaking ability and their classroom activities through the implementation of Interactive Storytelling Strategy. Therefore, this study was directed to explore the beneficial of Interactive Storytelling that closely related to the EFL learners’ everyday activities at their home and school.

     This present Interactive Storytelling Strategy, fortunately, used the storytelling as the way to improve the EFL learners’ speaking competence. The learners would interactively build up communication with teachers and friends, asking and giving help, asking question, and answering questions. This means that the learners will build up communication talking about their ideas, feeling, and experiences related to the story. This strategy will also trigger the learners’ motivation to speak since it expects the learners to explore their imagination related to the story then propose it in their speaking. Therefore, this research becomes increasingly important to be applied among the Indonesian EFL learners to improve their speaking ability and that of their classroom activities.

Using Communicative Games in Improving Students’ Speaking Skill

          Speaking is one of the basic language skills that have to be mastered by English foreign learners due to its significant and its use for communication. However, in several Asian countries in which English is taught as a foreign language such as South Korea, Japan, Thailand and some other countries in the Middle East, learners’ behavior in classroom situation seems not working that it is hoped as it stated in The East Asian Learner Journal that learners in Asia are often afraid of making mistakes and being ridiculed in front of their classmates.

          Communicative games have contributed a positive impact on teaching learning process. This also implies the communicative games expected to enhance students’ enthusiasm and motivation. Clearly, It gives positive improvement on students’ active participation, confidence and their fluency in speaking skill. In short it can be described that the strategy of teaching and learning creates good, enjoyable circumstances and reduces the boredom and stress of learning process.

Improving Students’ Vocabulary Mastery by Using Total Physical Response by Fahrurozzi

          Class Action Research is conducted through the plan, class action or implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The data collection was done by using a non-test, test instruments and monitoring instruments in the form of action, and field notes. Validity and reliability of the instrument were reached through expert judgment. The results obtained from this study was the improvement in vocabulary learning outcomes of students by applying the Total Physical Response (TPR) method.

          TPR implementation in the classroom to improve learning out comes of students’ vocabulary by making the vocabulary of students physically, activate students through role-modeling that can be translated to students as the meaning of a word in the English language so that the students' understanding of vocabulary increases. Besides the application of TPR in the classroom, it can also make English language learning of students who previously daunting for even more fun so that students can follow the learning process to the optimum result.
